Inspired by a trip I recently took to Bacalar, Mexico, where we swam in crystal clear water for the first time.
I’ve been exploring natural dyes lately. Much of my work is inspired by nature, so using plants as the pigment has been an exciting new element in my practice.
It’s a process of letting go of control for the base layer, almost like a watercolor wash, and seeing where the composition takes me. I saw a landscape even before adding any linework, adding upon that one stroke at a time to create depth. This experiment leaves just enough information for the eye to enter and wander.
